The Franconia-Springfield Station has 1 island platform (Metro) and 2 side platforms (Virginia Railway Express). The station is served by four trains. Each train goes in two directions named for the last stop on the line.

Bike Parking

The station has 36 bike racks and 20 lockers. Bicycle racks are freely available on a first-come, first-use basis. Bicycle lockers are available for rent. So you can ride your bicycle to the Metro station, leave it there, and take Metro or Metrobus.

Bicycle lockers provide secure parking by improving protection from theft, vandalism, and weather. Each locker is designed to hold one bicycle and bicycle gear. Most standard bicycles will fit inside. However, longer bicycles such as tandem bikes or some recumbent bikes will not fit into the lockers.

Metro Parking

All Day Parking: There are 5,069 parking spots. Cost/day is $4.50. Parking fees are collected upon exit from 10:30 a.m. to Metro closing hours. Parking fees can be paid using SmarTrip Card and credit card.

Short-term Metered Parking: There are 48 parking spots. Parking is available from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 2 a.m. Meters at short-term parking spaces accept only quarters and $1 coins.

Additional spaces and costs: There are 97 spaces metered for a maximum of 12-hours @ $1.00 per 60 mins.

Reserved Parking: There is reserved parking at Franconia-Springfield Parkway at Frontier Drive. The reserved rate is $65. Monthly permit holders are required to pay the daily fee each time they park. (The daily fee is in addition to the $65 monthly permit fee).

Overnight Parking: The Franconia-Springfield Station provides between 15 and 17 spaces allocated for multi-day use of up to 10 days. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Cost/Day is $4.25. There is no charge for multi-day parking beyond the regular fee. Access multi-day parking by entering the garage through the lower level entrance #1 and proceeding to row J of the facility. Park in spaces signed "multi-day parking."

Free Parking: Parking is free at Metro-operated lots and garages on weekends and federal holidays. Most weekends, it is easy to find a space at Metro parking lots.

Other Parking Options

If you are unable to find parking at the Metro station, consider the following options:

Park for free at the Springfield Mall in the Macy's Garage on levels 2, 4 or 6. A TAGS shuttle bus, operated by Metrobus (S80 or S91) runs between the parking garage and the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station at bus bay D every 10 minutes. The Fairfax Connector route 401 also services Springfield Mall, and Fairfax Connector routes 321, 322, 331 and 332 serve Springfield Mall on Spring Mall Road.

Park for free at the Backlick Park and Ride facility and use the Fairfax Connector- route 310 or 332 to the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station.

Park for free at the Gambrill Park and Ride facility and use Metrobus route 18R or the Fairfax Connector route 305 to the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station.

Park for free at either the Gambrill or Backlick Park and Ride facility and use the Fairfax Connector route 380-D (detour route) to the Pentagon Metro Station.
