L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station is the closest station to the National Air and Space Museum. The station has three exits; make sure to leave through the "Maryland Avenue/Smithsonian Museums Exit". You could end up blocks from the museum if you leave through the wrong exit.

Another alternative is the Smithsonian Metro Station. The Smithsonian Station has two exits. Leave the station through "The Mall Exit". For suggested routes and directions, see the map below.

The Museum

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum features the largest collection of aircraft and spacecraft in the world, from the earliest airplanes to the more recent spaceships and rockets.

The museum has two display facilities:

(1) The building in Washington D.C. has hundreds of artifacts on display including the original Wright 1903 Flyer, the Spirit of St. Louis, the Apollo 11 command module, and a lunar rock sample that visitors can touch.

(2) The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia displays many more artifacts including the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, Boeing B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay and Space Shuttle Discovery.

Parking

There is no public parking facility at the Smithsonian on the National Mall; on-street parking is limited and posted times are enforced.
