The Minerva Statue was created by Herbert Adams as the "Minerva of War" and the "Minerva of Peace". The statue is placed atop each marble pillar at the base of the double staircases inside the Library of Congress. "Minerva of War" grasps a short sword in one hand and holds aloft the torch of learning in the other; "Minerva of Peace" holds a globe, which symbolizes the universal scope of knowledge, and a scroll.
