The U.S. Capitol Building has an area known as the Crypt located under the Capitol Rotunda. It was designed as the final resting place of George Washington in the tomb below. However, under the stipulations of his last will, Washington was buried at Mount Vernon, and as such the area remains open to visitors. The Crypt now houses exhibits on the history of the U.S. Capitol Building.
