The Museum

Founded in 1987, the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) is the only major museum in the world solely dedicated to recognizing women's creative contributions.

The museum is also dedicated to discovering and making known women artists who have been overlooked or unacknowledged. They have since acquired a collection of more than 4,000 paintings, sculptures, works on paper and decorative art from over 800 artists. The building itself is a work of art. It was originally built as a Masonic temple, and it has been beautifully restored.

The National Museum of Women in the Arts is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

The National Museum of Women in the Arts participates in Blue Star Museums, offering free admission for all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
