The Museum

The National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM) at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center was established during the Civil War as the U.S. Army Medical Museum.

The museum features anatomical and pathological specimens, medical instruments and artifacts, and microscope slide-based medical research collections. The collections focus on the history of American military medicine. The museum floor features exhibits on Civil War medicine including artifacts documenting the death of Abraham Lincoln.

Hours of Operation

Monday - Sunday
10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

NMHM is open daily, including weekends and holidays. NMHM is closed on December 25.

Parking

Parking is free in the Museum's lot directly off Linden Lane.

Tours

The Museum offers Introductions, Self-guided Tours, and Forensic Workshops tours. There is no charge for guided tours or admission to the Museum. However, reservations must be made four to six weeks in advance by emailing [email protected] or calling (301) 319-3312. The Museum requires a minimum of one adult chaperone (minimum age 18) for every ten students.
