Deanwood Metro Station on the Orange line of the Metro System is the closest station to the Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. From the lower station exit, go out the Polk Street tunnel to the pedestrian overpass that crosses Kenilworth Avenue. Use the overpass to cross Kenilworth Avenue. Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens

The Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens is nestled near the Anacostia River in Washington DC. The gardens preserve a plethora of rare waterlilies and lotuses in the cultivated ponds near the river. The park also contains the Kenilworth Marsh, the only remaining tidal marsh in Washington DC and an adjacent recreational area.

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, entered from Anacostia Avenue, is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The park exit locks at 4 to all except those coming by water. Those coming by water must monitor tides not to be stuck.

Kenilworth Marsh can be accessed by canoe at high tide from the river, or on foot by the boardwalk and river trail beginning in Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens or the edge of Kenilworth Park.

Spring is the best season for wildflowers in the marsh that borders the athletic fields and gardens. Summer is the season for the Aquatic Gardens. Winter, when leaves are off the trees, is the best time for birding at any of the sites.

Hours of Operation

The Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens is open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Thanksgiving, Christmas (December 25) and New Year.
