The mission of the U.S. Botanic Garden is furthering an understanding of the value of plants to humankind and the entire biosphere. The complex includes the Conservatory, the Bartholdi Park, and the National Garden.
The Conservatory houses the following exhibits: World Deserts, Hawaii, Childrens Garden, Garden Primeval, Plant Adaptations, Garden Court, Medicinal Plants, Orchids, Plant Exploration, Southern Exposure, Rare and Endangered Species, and Plants and Culture.
The National Garden features a Regional Garden of mid-Atlantic native plants, a Rose Garden devoted to the national flower, a Butterfly Garden, a First Ladies Water Garden, and an amphitheater. The Bartholdi Park features the historic Bartholdi Fountain with gardens continuously updated to reflect modern trends in American horticulture and new plant introductions.
