The closest metro station to the National Portrait Gallery is the Gallery Place-Chinatown Station on the Red, Green and Yellow Lines of the Metro System. National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery tells the history of America through portraits of individuals who have made significant contribution to American history. The art gallery portrays poets and presidents, visionaries and villains, actors and activists whose lives tell the American story. It's the second best national portrait gallery in the world, the best is in London, England.

Admission

Admission to the National Portrait Gallery is free of charge, and no admission tickets are necessary.

Hours of Operation

The National Portrait Gallery is open from 11:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. every day except December 25.

Parking

The use of public transportation, including taxis, in Washington DC is recommended as on-street parking is extremely limited and traffic is often heavy.
